I was fortunate enough to be on-set and document the production of what I thought was the most visually striking of yesterday’s Super Bowl commercials.  The spot for Mountain Dew’s Kickstart aired just before kickoff (clever timing), and featured some stunning visuals of a mass rocket launch in the California desert.  All of it was captured in-camera (beautifully) without any additional CGI effects, much harder that way… and so much better!

Here’s the spot and a behind the scenes video with some details about how they did it.

I was brought in by the talented team at Motive to shoot stills to help publicize the production.  We spent two days and nights outside of Palmdale with the crew as they prepped for the shots, including two rocket launches featuring over 800 rockets.  A really impressive collection of pros working together!

Unfortunately, due to a severely limited jumping ability and no real basketball skill whatsoever, I won’t be performing soon in an arena near you.  But the good news is that the Harlem Globetrotters’ 2014 World Tour is underway.  Working with these guys is always great fun, as is working working with my friends at Adrenalin in Denver who directed the shoot in New York and designed the game program.
